FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PMC SPONSORS VIRGINIA TECH AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE TEAM Take two bicycle wheels, a couple motors, and some electrical controls and put them together to make a vehicle that can travel autonomously. Starting from an idea created in a Kinematics class, the Bi-Planar Bicycle was nearly completely realized in the summer of 2001 when it first participated in the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition. This year the team has gotten together to further improve and extend the capabilities of the vehicle so that it can be fully autonomous and compete again in the competition. Virginia Tech's Autonomous Vehicle Team will compete against top Engineering schools in the 10th Annual Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition at Coronado Springs in Walt Disney World, FL - July 6-8, 2002. It is a multidisciplinary, theory-based, hands-on, team implemented, and outcome assessed competition that is based on product realization. Good luck to all the participating teams! |
